Pipilotti Rist's video art- how can we link this to science and reason?
Still from 'Ever is Over All' (1997)
1. Define the 17th century 'Scientific Revolution', and say how it changed European thought and world view.
In the 17th centuries the scientific revolution bought the fundamental change in the way how Europeans think about the natural world, it was a period of time where is a big change in scientific thought and scientific revolution is also implicated in political and religious, the reason behind are because the period of the exploration have led them to discover new plants and animals, also got encouraged to be interested in natural science and in navigation on astronomy, as an conclusion the changes is in two different major area, one is biology and astronomy, all of these happening is because in the period they wanted the technology to be more developed and moving on from the medieval world to the early modern world. Therefore they’ll have a faster development on the new technology in the world.
2. Give examples of how we can we still see evidence of the 'Scientific Revolution' in the world today.
The scientific revolution had bought us the advancement of the science method, like math, physics and biology, now is influenced to a lot of astute thinkers began to having lots of question and this questioning had led to the scientific revolution. one of the American statement said “can chart our future clearly and wisely only when we know the path which has led to the present” this sentence have describe a person’s feeling of the impact of the scientific revolution. Today there are a lot of scientists are experimenting with nanotechnology and venture on the new scientific disciplines. Because of the scientific revolution have created more new technology for people to use on, like this artist have used technology to created her own work. Therefore we can still see the evidence of the scientific revolution are still happening today.
Research Pipilotti Rist's video installations to answer the following;
3. From your research, do you think that the contemporary art world values art work
that uses new media/technology over traditional media?
I think that new technology can be another way to be used as an equipment for making art, it’s more modern. Either of these two types of media is useable, because both of the media can create lots of different art work. Technology media are more moveable ,like film, picture, with the traditional media are more immobile, but it have the precious because it’s the only one, with the new technology media, there will be more copies of it.
4. How has Pipilotti Rist used new media/technology to enhance the audience's experience of her work.
Many olden art work, have worked with paints and handwork equipments, which we see a lot in many museum, but with Pipilotti Rist’s art work we see lot of new technology media with her works, this have created the new way that we can developed more with our owns, and Pipilotti Rist’s art work also have a feeling of lost in some where, for example the film above, we see the main picture but very chaotic.
5. Comment on how the installation, sound and scale of 'Ever is Over All' (1997) could impact on the audience's experience of the work.
This installation have created a feeling of a human in two different faces, in the art work “ever is over all” filmed in 1997, it show a girl smashing the windows if the car and the other side was the plants and trees. This give a feeling of two different faces, of how the girl react but the inside is lovely as a flowers and plants. This film can impact on a lot of audience of two different idea in one art work.
6. Comment on the notion of 'reason' within the content of the video. Is the woman's behaviour reasonable or unreasonable?
I don’t think there is a behaviour of reasonable and unreasonable, because the artist is give use a two different feeling.
7. Comment on your 'reading' (understanding) of the work by discussion the aesthetic (look), experience and the ideologies (ideas, theories) of the work.
To read Pipilotti Rist's work, i think people need to think more creative because a lot of her work we need to think what happening, as what I said before a lot of her work is very chaotic, to look at her art work I have looked at the colors and the shapes, because she also use some odd colors and shapes. Also her works have a starting point where she goes from a small things into the big thing.
